In UAE summers a weak car AC is more than a comfort problem — it is a safety and resale issue. Most cooling complaints trace back to a handful of causes. Here is how to recognise them and what a fair repair should cost.
Common reasons a car AC stops cooling
- Low refrigerant due to a leak in a hose, condenser, or seal
- Failed or weak AC compressor
- Blocked or dirty condenser (very common with UAE dust)
- Faulty cooling fan or radiator fan
- Clogged cabin air filter reducing airflow
- Electrical fault, relay, or pressure sensor
Typical AC repair costs in the UAE
| Repair | Estimated price (AED) |
|---|---|
| AC regas + leak check | 150 - 400 |
| Cabin filter replacement | 60 - 200 |
| Condenser replacement | 500 - 1,500 |
| Cooling fan motor | 300 - 1,200 |
| Compressor replacement | 1,200 - 3,500+ |
Ranges vary by car brand, part source (genuine vs aftermarket), and labour. European and luxury cars sit higher.
Regas vs real repair
Refrigerant does not get used up. If your AC needed gas, something leaked it out. A garage that simply tops up the gas without finding the leak is selling you a temporary fix.
Insist on a leak test (UV dye or electronic sniffer) before any regas. It is cheap, and it stops you paying for the same job twice.
When to get it checked
Do not wait for peak summer. A compressor that is starting to fail often gives warning signs — intermittent cooling, unusual noise when the AC engages, or cooling only while driving. Catching it early is far cheaper than a full failure.
